Sensory Play

This Week —
Let’s tackle this hot topic: what the heck is sensory play and why is it such a big deal? Short answer: it's play that involves all your kid’s senses—taste, smell, touch, sight, hearing, plus balance and body awareness. It’s much more than just a fun way to distract your kid while you’re on Zoom meetings (though, believe me, it comes in handy in those moments too!). Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem-solving skills, and it’s amazing for calming an anxious or frustrated child and can even help a picky eater become more comfortable with new textures. What’s not to love? 😉
Listen To —
You’ll find lots of sensory play ideas to do at home online and on Instagram. These pages rarely tackle the “listening” part of sensory play, so if you truly want to bring your kiddo’s sensory play to the next level, then put on some complex music! Here’s a playlist especially designed for intentional, focused sensory playtime. So set up that sensory bin, hit the play button, then sit back and watch your child get in the zone!
